They are unbearably slow and extremely time consuming to keep backed up.Lexan Systems LLChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11878827580047192929noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6275903.post-79272321600857685282009-06-09T23:58:42.655-07:002009-06-09T23:58:42.655-07:00The solution for me has been Dropbox. I use Mercurial for source control and *that* is backed up too. (Backing up CVS was always hard).

As an added bonus, I have the same fileset on each of three computers (a Mac, and two windows boxes), and it's easy to share large files with friends.

Locally Dropbox is just a normal directory. But a little TSR hangs out looking for updates additions and deletions, and syncs with the service.

(I am not affiliated with Dropbox, and you might try Mozy or any of the other providers for this sort of stuff).joshhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09140949936435640406noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6275903.post-15665904364593150282009-06-09T15:36:01.551-07:002009-06-09T15:36:01.551-07:00I'm currently shopping for a washing machine (...I'm currently shopping for a washing machine (the old one blew up), and you can buy products from a couple hundred dollars up to $2000. Some of the high-end ones, notably the Miele, specifically market themselves as being bulletproof, built to last. You pay more, you get better.

You'd think that PCs could be built and sold the same way. To some extent, that's already part of Apple's marketing strategy, with these nice aluminum cases, but I agree more companies should be playing in this space.DWallachhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08713162566837799543noreply@blogger.com
