Miss you, WinAMP

I just closed iTunes and ran WinAMP 3 again.

This marks the first time in about six months that I haven't been longing for a dual-core CPU. iTunes, as you know, is so slow that it needs its own CPU to work right (err..."core" in the modern marketing parlance.)

But with this crazy 1997 technology I can hit the "next" button and it, um, plays the next song! Without a delay at all! I almost feel like my 2+GHz CPU is capable of picking random numbers in under a second!

But, hmm, that can't be true. iTunes can't do it -- must be a trick. I'll have to investigate and get back to you.
